이요브는 성경에 나오는 인물인 욥, 히브리어로 “ı̂yôb “에서 따온 이름입니다. ‘박해받는, 미움받는 자’라는 뜻을 가지고 있습니다. 크리스천이라면 누구나 한 번 쯤은 욥의 고난에 대해서 들어 본 적이 있을 것입니다. 수년 전 하나님께서는 나를 욥과 같이 되게 하겠다고 말씀하셨습니다. 저는 욥이 어떤 고난을 받았는지 잘 알고 있었던 터라 처음에는 쉽게 받아들이지 못했습니다. 그러나 두 번째 말씀하실 때에는 아멘으로 받아들였습니다. 하나님이 말씀하셨으니 반드시 이루어질 것이고, 하늘 아버지는 선하셔서 그 길은 분명 내게 가장 좋은 길일 것이라고 믿었기 때문입니다.
결핵이 찾아오고, 사법시험에 떨어지고, 친구들이 떠나가고, 가족들에게는 애물단지가 되고, 나이는 들고 몸은 약해서 취직도 안되고, 경험도 없고, 가난하고, 아프고… 내 인생은 이렇게 무너지는구나, 절망밖에 아무것도 꿈꿀 수도 기대할 수도 없었던 시간들을 거쳐왔지만, 그 과정에서 예수님을 만났고 그분을 깊이 알게 되었고 얼마나 사랑 넘치시고 좋으신 분이신가 깨닫고 경험하게 되었습니다.
이제는 고난도 상관없어요. 예쁘고 귀여운 여성적 이름이 아니어도 괜찮아요. 내 인생에 어떠한 꽃길도 준비하지 않으셨다 하더라도 예수님과 함께 동행하는 이 길은 행복하기만 합니다. 하늘 아버지는 선하신 분이시고 나를 정말 사랑하시니까요. 하나님 사랑을 경험하게 될수록 그 사랑을 세상에 알리고 싶어요. 하늘 아버지가 얼마나 선하신 분이신지 얼마나 능력이 뛰어난 분이신지 자꾸만 세상에 대고 외치고 싶네요. ㅎ 도저히 살아갈 방도가 없던 나를 이렇게 살리시고 여전히 살아가게 만들어주고 계시니까요. 제가 만난 이 선한 하나님을 여길 방문하신 여러분도 꼭 만나게 되면 좋겠습니다.
